Love or hate your pores, you cannot get rid of them. With skin being the largest organ of the body there are many aspects of it that are critical for the body’s overall health. Our entire body is covered in tiny hairs (from our face, back, and even our hands) and each follicle has a pore at the top of it. The pores associated with those hair follicles can vary in size and overall functionality, but if you suffer from the appearance of an enlarged pore size, there is hope.
Pore size is a part of our anatomy and can be genetically determined. We may not be able to ever completely get rid of them, however there are tips to help improve the appearance of our pores to make them less noticeable. Let’s face it we all want perfect smooth skin and there’s no reason why we can’t achieve that.
As I’m sure you have picked up by now, I am a big fan of SkinCeuticals products. There are a couple of products which they offer that I absolutely love and can be used as an at-home skin care regimen to help reduce the appearance of your pore size. The best part is, these products have other amazing benefits as well!
The first product that I would recommend to anyone looking to improve their overall skin and reduce the appearance of their pores is:
- LHA Cleanser: This exfoliating gel cleanser decongests pores, smoothes skin texture, and brightens skin. This cleanser is great for an oily and combination skin type as it has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
The second is:
- Retinol: This concentrated facial cream with pure retinol improves the appearance of visible signs of aging and pores while minimizing breakouts. Retinol comes in different strengths (0.3, 0.5, 1.0) and contains a soothing complex to help minimize irritation.
As with any products I use with my clients, it is so important to always make sure your sunscreen is applied and reapplied.
Being diligent about applying these products is key to achieving healthy looking skin, however that is only half the battle. The other half is in office visits to specifically treat these areas. A homecare regimen and monthly facial treatments work hand in hand and will help you achieve the outcome of a clearer skin complexion.
When one of my clients comes in to see me to reduce the appearance of their pores, there are a couple of go to office treatments I perform.
- Hydrodermabrasion: This latest revelation in skincare technology utilizing water jets as a process to break up the outer layer of the skin to reveal a smoother, more even texture. A hydrodermabrasion treatment can be used on all skin types to repair aging, congested, dull, blemished or photodamaged skin. Clients with mild acne scars can also benefit from this procedure as well as those with oily skin. In addition, puffy eyes can also be treated using this procedure. After treatment, your skin will become slightly pink but the color effect subsides quickly.
- Chemical Peels: A chemical peel is a skin surfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to certain areas of the skin to remove the top layers. Chemical peels are used to treat skin conditions such as acne, acne scars, age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, freckles, irregular skin pigmentation, rough skin and scaly patches, scars and sun damaged skin. This controlled removal ranges in strength, from superficial peels that use mild acids to deep peels that penetrate several layers of skin. After a healing period, which also varies with the intensity level, your skin will be left feeling softer and smoother.
- Celluma Light Therapy: A LED therapy treatment that delivers three wavelengths to treat both acne and anti-aging. Each programmed treatment is optimally designed to reach the targeted area stimulating cellular activity at different tissue depths. This stimulation at the cellular level also helps reduce pore size and overall texture of the skin.
No matter what your skin care goals may be, they can be derailed by the appearance of your pores. Many people who suffer from this feel as though there is nothing that they can do to correct it and this leads to the potential of more problems occuring. My hope is that this will give each one of you the encouragement you need to achieve the skin complexion you have been longing for.
