Baby, it’s cold out there! As much as I love winter and the snow that blankets the beautiful New England countryside, winter is one of the most difficult times to take care of your skin. Dry skin can lead to a multitude of other issues but fear not, I have my go-to winter skincare must-haves that will leave your skin feeling amazing. I use these products in my own skincare routine and I can tell you from personal experience that they will get you through the harsh winter with great looking skin!
- Triple Lipid Moisturizer: Hydration is important for everyone no matter your skin type. Moisturizing every day can reduce the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness. It can also help give your sensitive skin the boost it needs to repair itself and stay healthy. Most importantly, make sure you are drinking enough water! This is so important if you feel your skin starting to flake. My favorite moisturizer Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2, is an anti-aging cream formulated with a maximized concentration of lipids: 2% pure ceramides, 4% natural cholesterol, and 2% fatty acids. This unique lipid correction cream contains the first 2:4:2 cholesterol-dominant ratio to help restore the skin’s external barrier and support natural self-repair, while potently nourishing aging skin for improvement in the visible appearance of skin smoothness, laxity, pores, and overall radiance. This moisturizer is paraben-free and dye-free and is also ideal for aging, normal, and dry skin types. Triple Lipid Moisturizer can be applied twice daily (both AM/PM) to the face, neck, and chest. A pea-size amount of this product goes a long way and can do wonders with moisturizing the skin while also helping with anti-aging. One of my favorites!
- Micro-Exfoliating Scrub: I exfoliate my skin once a week. Exfoliation helps replenish skin. Between the cold air outside and dry indoor heating, your skin cells dehydrate and die out faster in winter. You’ll want to buff away these dead cells so new cells can come in healthier and without obstruction. Your skin needs help staying hydrated in the winter, so making sure you remove dead cells so your moisturizer can penetrate more deeply is key to a healthy-looking glow all winter long! Micro-Exfoliating Scrub features a powerful 2% concentration combining hydrated silica, glycerin, and aloe extract to purify pores and promote a healthy skin barrier. Once a week, apply a small amount of this gentle face scrub onto a wet face and neck using a light circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a clean cloth. Realistically, you should be exfoliating all year round, but it becomes even more important when the winter weather makes things extra dry. Micro-Exfoliating Scrub is paraben, sulfate, and alcohol-free. Its also suitable for dry, normal, oily and combination skin. I love this exfoliating gel!
- Phyto Corrective Gel: My skin tends to get flaky and very red during the winter. Serums are applied before your moisturizer to allow ingredients to really absorb into the skin and provide maximum results. A hydrating serum is a perfect way to give some moisturizing and anti-aging benefits to protect against dry winter air! Phyto Corrective Gel is a hydrating, soothing gel serum with botanical ingredients ideal to calm and hydrate skin while improving visual redness. This serum contains hyaluronic acid, cucumber, thyme, and other botanical ingredients, making it an ideal for sensitive skin. It also features mulberry to help minimize the appearance of discoloration and promote a clear, fresh-looking complexion. This soothing gel is also excellent for acne-prone skin as it is non-comedogenic. Apply 2-3 drops to face, neck, and chest as needed. I prefer to use Phyto Corrective Gel as a nighttime serum so it doesn’t interfere with my makeup routine in the morning, however, this product can be applied at any time of the day! It can be a great pick me up midday for those who also suffer from Rosacea and are looking for an extra boost of hydration while keeping the redness at bay. This is a must-have!
- Gentle Cleanser: Using a gentle cleanser is always a good idea in adding an extra boost of hydration. The Gentle Cleanser By SkinCeuticals not only smells amazing but does a wonderful job of hydrating the skin without overly stripping it. It’s great for those who use corrective products such as Retinol to prevent your skin from feeling overly tight. Gentle Cleanser is a creamy, mild cleanser formulated with an emollient-rich surfactant and 3% concentration of key ingredients combining allantoin, glycerin, and orange oil to soften and restore skin’s surface. This product is a top seller at Skin Care By Calie as it is not only non-comedogenic but also paraben-, sulfate-, soap-, synthetic-fragrance-, dye- and alcohol-free. I enjoy using this cleanser both AM and PM during the cooler times of the year. It’s also great for post-procedure for those who come in for treatments such as Chemical Peels and Facials.
- Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight: If you are like me and most of my clients, Retinol is not something we can use every night as it can become overly drying. I tend to find I use my Retinol 2-3 nights out of the week after cleansing and I use the Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight on the off nights. This product gives such an amazing glow to the skin! I always find the morning after using this product I wake up with a healthier, dewy factor to my skin. And who isn’t looking for that “glow”?! This nighttime glycolic acid cream delivers a true 10% glycolic acid value to promote cellular turnover for healthy, brighter skin. I mix in a pea-size amount of the Glycolic 10 Renew Overnight with a pea-size amount of the Triple Lipid Moisturizer and apply it to my face/neck while avoiding my eyes. Say goodbye to your dull skin this Winter!
That’s it! Those are my go-to products that get me through the long winter months. Before we know it, it will be sunny and warm and well be fighting a whole new skincare battle but for this season these 5 products will have you happy and healthy all winter long. If you are unsure of how to apply your products, my pro-tip is, always apply from lightest to heaviest. Some skin types may require time to acclimate to certain products so please always consult with Skin Care By Calie before proceeding.
