Log on to google or any of your preferred search engines, looking for aestheticians, you will find a long list to choose from. The problem is that with all those choices, how do you know which one is right for you? No need to worry, there are a few things you can think about when determining which place you are going to book your next appointment at.
I think the first thing that I recommend is to start wide and progressively narrow your choices down. What I mean is, some of the first choices that come up in searches are those at large offices or chains which offer skin care services along with other treatments for different conditions. Places like this offer these type of services, but skin care is not their main focus. For some having a well established group is comforting and they feel that it is the best place to go to get what they need done. And that is totally fine. The downside with larger offices is sometimes you lose out on the individual care that can make all the difference in getting the results you are looking for. Whether being squeezed into a short appointment times or just not having the freedom to figure out exactly what you need, larger offices might not always be the best choice. This is one of the first things you may notice when looking to book an appointment at Skin Care By Calie. The longer appointment times are the first step in giving you the individualized care you deserve. I believe one of the best treatments for any skin type or issue that you go in to treat, is being able to relax about it. Who likes the feeling of being rush? I know I don’t! Stress only perpetuates problems, so being rushed and not having the time to relax is not ideal in my opinion. You want to find an Aesthetician which is able to give you individual attention and allows you to enjoy taking care of your skin. A place that specializes in skin care and gives you their full attention is ideal.
Ok so you’ve narrowed your choices down to smaller practices that specialize in skin care. Amazing! Now what? This is probably the most important recommendation which I can give you. Don’t just click on the top search choice or the one closest to you and be done. Do some research! In the case of small practices, it isn’t difficult to figure out who will be administering the treatment. Armed with that information, look into the background of the provider you would potentially be seeing for your treatment. I highly recommend only seeing those that are Licensed Aestheticians. There are a lot of skin care laws in the state of Connecticut, but one that does not exist is that you do not need to be licensed in order to be a practicing Aesthetician. All that is required is for a person to complete a given number of hours at a school of their choice. Once that is done they can start. Scary right? Being licensed is a different ball game. Ask me how I know? Once I completed the required hours needed, I also needed to pass both a written and practical licensing exam. It wasn’t until this point that I became a licensed Aesthetician. Being licensed is a good indicator that the treatment you will be getting will be both exactly what you need and it will be done correctly. Another aspect to this is, you may want to proceed with skin care specialist who has a medical background. Before I decided to become an Aesthetician I was a medical assistant at a facial plastic surgeon’s office as well as a dermatology practice. This allows me to be able to recommend specific treatments from a medical standpoint in order for my clients to see the best results. This may be a little tougher to find in your area but if at all possible, I highly recommend it.
Speaking of laws in Connecticut, know what is allowed and what isn’t. This may seem like its logical but unfortunately with no real way to enforce the laws, many places will offer services that are not legal. When I started my business, one of the first things I did was to sit down and decide on the service menu I wanted to offer. Although I already knew a lot of what I was allowed and not allowed to do, the laws are always changing so I quickly researched what the laws stated in CT and based on what I read, determined which services I could offer. Each state has their own separate laws so just read over them quickly and know what can and can’t be performed. If it was me, I would shy away from Aesthetician’s who offer services which aren’t legal to provide in your area. You just don’t know. If someone is willing to perform a service that is illegal, you may run the risk of getting sub-par treatments and having negative effects afterword.
The last bit of advice that I can offer when looking for the right Aesthetician is, know your skin care goals and the type of products that skin care professional will use. I put these together because I believe they go hand in hand. It is really important to know what you are trying to accomplish with your treatments and how the Aesthetician you see will help you get there. Each Aesthetician has their preferred product line and every line produces different results. Knowing what type of skin care goals you have will help determine what kind of products you should be using. For example, let’s say that your skin is prone to breaking out. Whether it is acne or the occasional pimple or two, your goal is to have clear skin and not have to worry about the next time a breakout might happen. Here at Skin Care By Calie, I offer a medical grade line of products made by SkinCeuticals that I absolutely love and which is backed up by research and science. When you are dealing with stubborn acne, anti-aging, sensitivity issues or any skin type you might have, you want a product that is strong enough to actually see real results. The over the counter at home treatments, most of the time, just don’t cut it. This is why it is important to know what you’re trying to accomplish and how you are going to get there.
Hopefully you will keep these recommendations in mind the next time you are looking for a skin care professional! If you are interested, I would love the opportunity to help you reach your skin care goals, whatever they may be!
